Senior Scientist
Shatha AbuHammad

BDS: University of Jordan
MS: University of Jordan
PhD: Peter MacCallum Cancer Center
Born and raised in Jordan
Scientific interest: novel cancer treatments, targeted protein degradation, mechanisms of resistance to cancer therapy.
I grew up in a small town surrounded by farm animals—if I weren’t in the lab, I’d probably be working on a farm, enjoying the simple beauty of nature!
Dr. Shatha AbuHammad earned her Bachelor’s degree in Dental Surgery and Master’s degree in Medicine from the University of Jordan. She was awarded MIR and MIFR scholarships to pursue her PhD under the supervision of Prof. Grant McArthur and Dr. Karen Sheppard at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Center in Melbourne, Australia, where she focused on uncovering the mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapies and developing novel combination strategies to overcome them.

In 2020, she commenced a DoD-funded postdoctoral fellowship at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute before joining the Center for Protein Degradation as a project lead. Shatha is currently a Senior Scientist in the Slabicki Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital, where her research explores the regulation of cancer dependencies by the ubiquitin–proteasome system and the development of molecular glues to drive targeted protein degradation.
